I am interested in a cruise in late March (around Easter Break) to Alaska. Do they do cruises at that time, and who is recommended to go with, at a reasonable cost?
To my knowledge no cruise ships run at that time of year. However the Alaska Marine Highway is open year round. It's the ferry system and leaves from Bellingham WA and goes through the inside passage up to Skagway. IMO that is the way to go if you are looking for a less expensive alternative to several thousand dollars on a cruise. You can get a cabin on board (about $80-150 per night) It takes around 7 days to get to Skagway and you will stop along the way in Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Juneau and other ports. Usually long enough to get out and take a tour around, but sometimes overnight.
It's wonderful even when it is still winter, on the ferry, I have seen some of the most incredible Northern Lights you can imagine, the scenery is spectacular and we're pretty friendly people, especially when you are here in the winter and we're not being mobbed by 2 full cruise ships in a tiny village.
