Princess has amazing cruises to Alaska. They are my favorite to go through. The best place to go out of is usually Seatle. But if you are looking to compare prices I would say either Princess or Holland America. Both are known as being really great cruises for Alaska and I must say that I agree! They are absolutely wonderful!

Here is my answer to some similar questions that you may find useful:

I have been on several cruises to Alaska and it is my absolute favorite cruise destination. It is just beautiful. How much is costs per person really just depends on what cruise you choose, how long you choose to go, categories, etc. I would say you could get a pretty nice cruise for around a $1000 per person. Plus airfare for about seven nights. Some companies will have special group rates for cruises, this is how I book through my agent to save some money. If they don't have any special rates available, you will get the cheapest rates the further out you book. Ocassionally cruise lines will release specials for last minutes cruise when they have some rooms left, but you really have to be available at the drop of a hat and be able to get air quickly. Also, keep in mind the air is a big part of the expense of an Alaskian cruise, depending on where you are from. For me air costs about $1000 per person, but the flight is usually 18 hours.

There are two seasons for Alaska the Shoulder Season and Peak Season. Shoulder Season is May, the first week of June, the last week of August and all of September. Peak Season is most of June, July and August.

Peak Season tends to cost more because the weather is better and that is when more people can travel. The This is the most likely time for families to take cruises, etc. More people are able to go and more people can go, so prices are higher. During shoulder season you will be able to save some money because the cruise lines are trying to get more people on board. Both seasons are great and just as beautiful as the next. You go at different times and it just a different type of beauty.

As far as when to go anytime between May and September is good. Obviously to save money you would be better going during shoulder season. Spring is absolutely beautiful because all the flowers are blooming, but Fall is also a great time because of the foliage.

If you go in June and July you will have the warmest weather and the longest days. So really, all the months have good points for why you would want to go, so you can pretty much schedule when you are available to go.

If you can, try to do an inside passage cruise. This is my favorite way to go. You will go to more ports this way and see a lot more. There are also cruises where they include a tour at each port, which is a really fun way to go, especially for your first visit. You will learn and see a lot by taking the cruise.

Be sure to pack appropriately for the weather during your season and take a really good camera and/or camcorder with extra film, memory cards, video, etc.

Hope this helps!

This is my answer as to weather an Alaskian cruise is good for someone under 30. Again, this may be helpful:

I've gone on several Alaskian cruises and I am under 30. They are absolutely beautiful. I love nature and you cannot find anything more beautiful than Alaska. I also love photography, so this was the perfect place for me to visit, too many picture opportunities sometimes. To me, the absolute best part was all the wildlife. I remember my first trip, as we got closer to Alaska, we could see several whales just a little ways off from our ship. This is abosolutely amazing to see, not something you see with other destinations.

If I were you, I would take a one way cruise, on the inside passage. this will get you to many different ports and it is the best experience. There are some available that will take you to a different port every day of the cruise. You can get 7-14 different ports. You could visit Juneau, Fairbanks, Skagway, etc. It's amazing. Then there are some that will actually include a tour at each destination. They would take you to differnet parts of the ports, you could experience different things. One cruise line even has a nature expert on the ship that stays on the top deck so he can tell you about everything you encounter, really cool.

There is also some inside passage cruises that have days that you visit different ports by land. So you may stop at one port and then the transportation would take you in to Mt. McKinley or something. This is really great to.

One thing that makes an Alaskian cruise better for a younger person is the flights and time change. It is quite a difference in time for most states. Plus, the flights can be really long. I think I usually have to take an 18 hour flight to get home. You can also fly from Alaska into California or Seattle and stay there for a while if you want. I really like the flight because you get to see different airports and places. Unless you sleep on the plane you will easily be up for 24 hours, which is pretty cool too.

As you can see I really like the Alaskian cruise. There is nothing quite like it. I really don't think it matters what cruise you do first, any cruise is amazing. If you are wanting spend time in the sun and laying on the beaches, go Bahamas or Carribean, also really beautiful. If you want a chilly experience, seeing lots of wildlife and getting to go many different places, than I say Alaska. If you are thinking Alaska won't be as fun for you because there isn't partying and stuff. Trust me, there is plenty of time to lounge around on the boat and drink or whatever.

I think you know what you like better, so it really depends on your preferences. I don't think you could go wrong with any cruise, they are all great. But for me, I would choose Alaska hands down. I've been to tropical ports as well and still choose Alaska. It is my favorite port of all, and I've been to many.
